ENERGY 101 NEWS ALERT!
KXRG-LP (Energy 101) Receives 18 Month Construction Permit Extension
July 28th, 2007 - We have been notified by the FCC that our broadcast license has been extended for 18 more months effective July 25, 2007.  Therefore, we now have until January 25, 2009 to become a fully licensed Low Power FM radio station in Honolulu.  We have accomplished step #1 of our goal as listed below.  We are now contacting our local congressional representatives to ask that they quickly pass legislation to remove the 3rd adjacent spacing rule which could potentially open up a new channel for us to broadcast.  We will keep you posted.  We are also now working on setting up our online stream and hope to have it operational very shortly.  Keep checking this web page often as we keep you updated on our progress.  Much more to come!!!

Energy 101 Forced Off The Air By Full Power Commercial Station
June 30th, 2007 marked the final broadcast day of Energy 101 in its current form.
June 30th, 2007 - It is a very sad day for us and all those fans and lovers of dance music in Hawaii.  For 16 months, since March 6th, 2006, Energy 101 has existed as the first and the only all dance radio station in Hawaii and one of only less than 10 nationwide.  We were also the only Low Power FM to have ever existed on Oahu.  A full power commercial station which shares our frequency on Maui has successfully petitioned the FCC for this channel on Oahu.  The new 101.1 began broadcasting on July 1st, 2007.  They are able to do this because Low Power FM's are not protected by the FCC and must give way to full power commercial radio stations.  We must be at least 3 clicks away from any other station.  The only available channel on Oahu at this time is 101.1 under current LPFM restrictions.  There is a bill before congress to remove this restriction.  If this happens, we may be able to come back on a new channel.  We will keep you posted on this as details develop.

We came on the air initially as a low power community radio station because this was the only feasible way to bring dance music to Hawaii's airwaves without spending a million bucks.  We were able to maintain the station on an extremely limited budget leveraging technology to cut costs.  In fact, with the wonderful donations of a few very generous listeners, we were almost breaking even each month.  This was achieved with no fundraising and no major on air solicitations or interruptions in the nonstop dance music.  A huge THANK YOU goes out to all those who supported this station thus far.  However, the pursuit for dance music on Hawaii's airwaves is not over.

Here is OUR plan of action.....

1.  File for an 18 month extension of our existing LPFM construction permit.  This would permit us to come back on the air on a new frequency if congress acts and removes the 3rd adjacent restrictions before January 25th of 2009 when our construction permit will expire.  This is of course subject to the FCC granting us the 18 month extension and congress acting on the current LPFM legislation.

2.  Set up an online stream so not only to continue offering our popular format to our loyal Hawaii listeners but expand our reach well beyond the islands.  There is great expense involved with such a project.  We may begin by trying a very low bandwidth stream that is free to our listeners and offer a premium CD quality stream to those who donate and support our efforts.

3.  File for a full power frequency in the upcoming full power non-commercial filing window this October.  This process is much more expensive and requires a minimum of 100 watts and a maximum of 100,000 watts.  This will be very competitive.  There were 13 applicants in the low power filing window on Oahu for one channel.  There are only a couple of slots available for full power stations and may draw many more applicants.

Here is what we need YOU to do:

1.  Donate to Energy 101 today.  Energy 101 is completely owned by a non-profit organization called Ohana Broadcasters Corporation who has worked diligently for 7 years to bring this station into existence and is dedicated to continuing the effort.  This entire process has cost $15,508 as of 6/30/07.  Everyone works on a 100% volunteer basis and will continue to do so with 100% of all donations received going toward furthering the work to bring dance radio to the islands.  Please donate today and support our efforts.  We simply cannot do it without your support.

rather mail a check?  send an email to music@MyHiEnergy.com and we'll give you the mailing instructions!

2.  Go to www.expandlpfm.org and sign the petition to expand Low Power FM radio.  Also visit www.freepress.net/lpfm for a great LPFM page.

3.  Give us your feedback on our online stream.  Would you be happy with or even listen to a free 20k stream or would you be willing to pay for a 128k CD quality stream and if so, how much would you pay per month for unlimited access to a 24 hour online stream?  Would you listen to either stream if it was filled with advertising messages interrupting the music?

What You're Saying:
Thanks alot!  I love you guys.
Will

First of all, your guys' energy station certainly uplifts countless amounts of people interested even those unexposed to such exciting music; unfortunately, they are like me where we only get to listen to 101.1FM on certain time occasions. Maybe you all have to be noticed more or something then you guys will have around the clock music. Keep it up! I love your station. 101.1 = good music with no talk.  Thanks for your effort guys.  Mahalo
Isaiah

Plumb-Cut, Please play this track, its so good!! I love her new sound.  Blush is also a winner.  Please play more of it - your station has such good taste and breaks many new acts.  Keep up the good work,
Joanne

I am a resident of the san francisco bay area and dance music lover and i just found out about your station, i think it is awesome that hawaii finally has a radio station devoted to dance music and i was wondering about contributing financial support to your station.  I'd really like to help you guys out.  Please let me know and keep up the good work.  Take care and good luck,
Alex

You guys do a great job.  Love the variety of music.  I get off of work late and catch a few of your songs each night.  Thanks.

Kim

Cheers: Love to hear Moby, Alice Deejay, and Paul Oakenfold. Great work!
Ted

I stumbled across your station in the car ------keep on dancing!  I'm from the mainland visiting the island and was so pleasantly surprised to hear the electronic dance beats on the radio.  A quick question, does your radio station endorse any type of venue or club that plays great music?
Brandy

Keep up the good work!  Awesome music!  Thanks!
Sharon

I'm so, so enthused that we have a station like you.  Hawaii needs, and will support fine dance radio like yours. I'd like to help, perhaps by volunteering -- I'm perusing the opportunities on your site at the moment.  Cheers, and good night -- you've certainly made mine one.
Scott

Best in Hawaiii!!! That's exactly what you guys are. I just moved here from North Carolina and cannot get over how energizing (no pun intended) and fun your music is. Thanks for being the underdog and sticking with the great music!
Taiya

It's about time we had a station that played Dance music. Get on web broadcast so we can listen in from anywhere..
Dennis

I think your station is the best!!! I love your music. I have a suggestion: What I think you should do is combine some of the music together and make it into a disc so the people that listen to your station can buy it when it comes out in stores or whatever you do to them (i.e.: stores or on your site). That way I think more people would want to buy it rather than single songs itself.  Anyways, I love your station and I've told others about it and they love it.
Keep it Up!!!
June

I listen to your station every day after work on the way home.  I just wish I could catch your signal in Kailua.  The Pali mountains block it.  Keep up the good work, no wait the great work. Thanx for the music.  You are awesome.
Chris

Happy to help in anyway that I can, you guys do a great job! Love the station! Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.
Regards,
Briana

Hey, it's great to listen to your music at work....there is nothing like it when it's commercial FREE!! i just hope this radio station would be on forever!  I love your radio station keep it up!
Snooches!
Danielle

I think what you guys are doing is amazing. I love listening to your station. Keep up the awesome work!
Thanks,
Ethan

Hello,

can I contribute?
Thanks,
Jason

Aloha!
Just wanted to tell you that I love your radio station and always listen to it when I get the chance, driving around Honolulu.  Thanks and keep up the good work!
